Today, I am sharing responses on Leadership that I received from FaceBook. I asked the question, “If you could give some advice to a person who is new in ministry, what would it be?”
These responses are from real KidMin Leaders who share what they have learned about LEADERSHIP.
LEADERSHIP
It’s one thing to lead followers, it’s another thing to lead leaders. Followers don’t want to make decisions. Leaders want to lead. In order to be most effective, focus your time and energy on leading leaders. You can’t do everything by yourself. If you want to grow as a leader, you have to increase your influence with leaders.
“He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” Ephesians 5:16
Duplicate yourself – You can’t do everything by yourself. Look for others you can lead and pour into to help you.
How To Make Changes – When new, give yourself six months to gain trust and build relationships. Then, seek to make changes, where needed. If you have been there for a while, and see that changes are needed, allow input from others.
What Does God See? – Strive to see people the way God sees them, give lots of grace & don’t be easily offended. Everyone has a place to serve.
Don’t Be Easily Offended – Pray that God would protect your heart and that you would not get offended or become hardened and bitter! Ministry is a true calling and it is wonderful, even when it is hard!
Recruiting – Learn to love recruiting…put most of your energy into this and your job will be so much easier. Recruit for everything, not just volunteers for classrooms. Recruit for Clean-up Teams, Team Leaders, Toy Cleaners, people to shop for your ministry, people to keep things organized, people to clean/organize classrooms, the list goes on. People are waiting to be asked to help you. What do you need help with? Find someone who likes to do that.
How To Grow As A Leader – Read leadership books to grow yourself. If you aren’t growing, your ministry and influence won’t grow either.
Get A Mentor and Apprentice – Someone walking with the Lord longer than you, to learn from and someone that is a newer Christian than you, that you can pour into and teach
Try New Things – Be brave enough to try new things to see what works (and what doesn’t) for your unique bunch. Seek to try new things too.
Cheer Leading – Be a cheerleader for your ministry and your teams. Learn to tell others “Thank You” or “Great Job.” They need to know you see what they are doing. It’s one way to strengthen your team.
Develop Your Leadership Skills – You are a leader, so act like a leader, love on people, pray with people, don’t be afraid of change if it makes it better. Develop and grow your team, you will never make everyone happy, just do what God is leading you to do.
