Recently I was stopped at an intersection. It was raining. I was waiting for the light to turn green, I noticed there was a truck stalled in the middle of the intersection.
Two men were pushing the truck slowly through the intersection.
As I was watching the light and the men push their truck, I looked to my right and there was another man sitting in a wheelchair on the side of the road.
Did I tell you it was raining?
I had to take my eyes off of the man in the wheelchair and focus to make sure the men pushing the truck were through the intersection, before I could proceed.
As I then began to proceed down the road, the car in front of me hit their brakes. I had to swerve into the next lane to avoid an accident.
What craziness!
Does it ever seem that there is craziness all around you? Everywhere you turn there are distractions? Stuff is going on.
Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth thee.”
This story is a classic illustration of how we can be going our way, doing our thing, minding our own business, and all around us, crazy, silly, goofy things are happening – but not to us. We are an observer. It is like a picture show going by. Why? Because when we trust in Him, He keeps us.
The outside distractions and interruptions are designed to move me. They are designed to get me angry, hurt, or fearful. Then I remember that I have the peace of God if my mind is stayed on Him. I just rneed to relax and rest in Him.
Stay focused on what you are doing and keep doing it. Don’t get pulled away.
