I’d like to share with you the most successful parent email I ever sent.
I have found email to be an effective way to recruit parents to serve in Kids Ministry, but it has to be short, direct and give a strong ask.
Like most churches, COVID decimated our volunteer force. When we re-started our Kids Ministry we did not have enough leaders to do Small Groups, so we cancelled them. On top of that it was a difficult time to recruit new volunteers.
I had taken a new Kids Pastor job at a new church. My first weekend COVID shut everything down. I was a Kids Pastor for months before I met the kids. My point is, I did not have relationships with the parents to be able to recruit one-on-one, so I turned to email.
The most important part of any email is the subject line.
Can you help me out?
This is a good subject line that motivates parents to open the email. If you don’t have a good subject line people just hit delete during their morning email purge. I like asking questions in subject lines. I also find that most people really do want to help.
I decided to re-launch our Small Groups in February 2022. We needed 40 Small Group Leaders to make it work.
I want to share with you the email that I sent.
I sent this email to all parents of kids in grades 1-5 using the subject line, Can you help me out?
Because of this email, I have 25 new volunteers, starting over the next two weeks. Many of these new volunteers came as a direct result of this email.
I’m hoping this email helps you recruit some new volunteers for your ministry.
- Don’t quit.
- Keep running your race.
- Keep recruiting volunteers to help you.
- Keep doing the things God called you to do.
Kids Ministry is precious to the Lord. I turn 63 this year and I still going strong. If I can do it, you can do it.
