One of the most powerful services I ever was part of was at Kid’s Camp in 1986.
I was Kid’s Pastor at a church in Oklahoma, and I had invited my friend, Bill Bush, to be the guest speaker.
The first service did not go very well. I didn’t think much of it.
On the second night of camp, Bill started off with the altar call.
He stood up in front of the kids with a rock in his hand and said something like this,
“Boys and girls, some of you here are like this rock. You’ve got a hard heart.”
At this point I was wondering where Bill was going with this. After all, these were my kids. I’m thinking to myself,
“These kids are good kids. They don’t have hard hearts?”
Bill went on to explain what he meant.
“Some people don’t think that Christians can have a hard heart but you can harden your heart towards God just like you can harden your heart towards a friend.”
How do you know if you have hardened your heart towards God?
- Do you have a hard time going to church?
- Has it been along time since you have read your Bible?
- Do you have a hard time worshipping the Lord?
If so you have hardened your heart towards God.”
Bill paused at this point. It got really quiet.
“If I just described you, then I want you to come down to the front and repent. Ask God to soften your heart.”
Bill paused, and waited for people to come to the altar, but nobody was moving. He was just standing there holding that rock for what seemed like an eternity.
I remember thinking,
“If this doesn’t work the service is over. I can tell that Bill doesn’t have anything else.”
There was a 12-year old boy named Chris, who was sitting on the back row. Chris was the class clown. He wasn’t serious about anything. He was the last kid you would think that would respond to an altar call like this, but Chris stood up, and ran down to the front and when he did the presence of God came into the room in a powerful way.
In less than a minute everyone in the room was down at the front and asking God to soften their heart. Those kids stayed at the altar praying for 55 minutes!
It was a life changing night for everyone, adults and kids alike.
Our kids need services like this, but it doesn’t just happen.
Someone has to lead the way like Bill did.
Someone has to teach kids about prayer and the Holy Spirit.
This is why I created a 12-week Curriculum on Prayer for Kids Church. Sometimes people will say that 12 weeks is a long time, but prayer needs to be a priority.
The Super Church 2.0 series on Prayer sells for $149.
If you purchase the prayer curriculum in the next thirty days I will ship it to you for free, plus I will give you the digital download for free when you purchase the CD/DVD kit.
Additionally, if you purchase the 12-week series on the Holy Spirit I will send you a third Super Church 2.0 series for Free.
In other words, if you buy two curriculum kits, you get a third one for FREE!
