Let’s face it, life can feel overwhelming, especially right now. Most of us may even feel overcome, this is normal, but we can’t stay there.
Here is what I do when I am feeling things are out of my control.
I remember that my faith comes by hearing the Word of God.
When I hear God’s Word my faith grows. When I say God’s Word it causes my faith to get stronger. This is the best way to build my faith because I will believe my own words more than I believe what someone else says.
I realize that negative words hurt my faith.
If I am negative, it is impossible for me to be strong in faith. If I am saying negative words, it will cancel out my faith. The Bible says, “I have the mind of Christ.” However, if I am always talking about how bad things are, then this scripture isn’t helping me. I cancel it out with my own words.
I guard my heart.
It is important to guard my heart from the negative things I may hear. It is all around us, news and social media are over-dosed with it right now. There is a balance, we do need sound information. However, if listening to the news is hurting my faith, I don’t listen to it. If I find myself getting negative after scrolling on social media, then I don’t go on social media for a while.
When I speak God’s Word it builds up my faith.
The more I say the Word of God the stronger my faith will be. My faith keeps pace with what I say.
If I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself that God’s Word says. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
If I feel weak, I don’t talk about how weak I feel, instead I say, “The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1
What I say determines how strong my faith is. I keep saying the Word of God, especially when I don’t feel like it. I walk by faith and not by how I feel.
Here are scriptures that I use to build up my faith:
“He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it isn’t looking for Him and doesn’t recognize Him. But you know Him, because He lives with you now and later will be in you.” John 14:17 (NLT)
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” John 16:13 (NKJV)
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (NKJV)
“…and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.” I Peter 2:24 (NASB)
