Ninety percent (90%) of a child’s personality is formed before the age of 5 years old.
When ministering to preschool children you are establishing their foundation, in which their spiritual life will stand and be supported.
You have an incredible opportunity to influence the character and development of the kids you are teaching.
Don’t lose a minute. Look at the time you have with them as precious and valuable, as you teach them the ways of the Lord.
How do you get started?
You start with bite-size pieces.
Mark and I are blessed with three grandchildren. We often have them over for family dinners.
When they were small, we would give them the same food that we would eat, we just cut it into smaller pieces.
They would eat (almost) anything that we ate, it just had to be in smaller bite sizes.
The important thing to remember when ministering to preschoolers is that we don’t water down our message we break it up into bite size pieces.
Kinder Church 2.0 uses the idea of bite-size pieces when teaching preschoolers.

Talk to your kids about having a relationship with Jesus.
The preschool age is a great time to begin to teach about what Jesus did for us.
Remember you are laying the foundation – you are not building the whole structure, so you don’t give them ALL you know.
Praying the Prayer of Salvation
“If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised him from death, you will be saved. For it is by our faith that we are put right with God; it is by our confession that we are saved.” Romans 10:9-10
In my preschool classes I do not give an altar call at every service. I give an altar call only when I have taught about salvation.
At this young age it is important to give children the opportunity, but their understanding of responding is limited.
I have found that when I would give altar calls weekly, many of the children would respond repeatedly.
I want to make sure they understand and want to ask Jesus into their heart. This isn’t about numbers.
Screen Every Child
• Always ask if child has done this before.
• If they have not, then proceed with the prayer of salvation.
“Dear God, I ask you to forgive me of sin. I believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead. I ask Jesus to live in my heart. Thank you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
If they have already prayed the prayer of salvation:
• If child has asked Jesus in their heart we do not pray the prayer of salvation with them again.
• Lead them in a prayer of forgiveness or rededication re-affirming their salvation.
“Father God, I thank you that Jesus lives in my heart. I ask you to forgive me and cleanse my heart. I love you and will live for you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
