- Are there broken kids in your class?
- Who is the unhappiest girl in your class?
- What about the worst behaved boy in your class?
- Do you know why they are unhappy or behave the way they do?
Maybe they lost somebody they love or possibly their parents just split up. They may not even be able to tell you why they are unhappy, but they don’t feel good about themselves.
“He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.”
– Luke 4:18
The good news is that Jesus specializes in healing broken, unhappy, people. If fact, He is actively seeking out broken people to heal.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”
– Psalm 34:18
If a child has a poor self-image the cure is for them to see themselves the way Father God sees them. If a child can gain an understanding of how their Heavenly Father sees them it will change how they think about themselves.
To teach this concept to kids I like to use the parable of the Buried Treasure or the Pearl of Great Price found in Matthew 13:44-46.
The traditional teaching of this text goes something like this; Jesus is the Pearl of Great Price. When you find Him you sell out for the Kingdom, give up your all for a relationship with Christ.
The problem that I have with this interpretation is this, who has enough money to buy a relationship with Christ?
I believe that the Pearl of Great price represents you and me and the Buried Treasure represents you and me.
The Treasure Hunter represents Father God. When the Father found us, He sold everything He had to redeem us. No greater price has ever been paid than what our Father paid for us.
When the world looks at broken kids they see trash. The world sees throwaway kids, but Father God sees buried treasure. If you look through His eyes you will see what He sees.
As a teacher or a parent you cannot fix your kids, only Jesus can do that, but you might be the portal Father God uses. Pray for the broken kids in your class and ask God to allow you to be a channel of His love.
I cannot guarantee that the broken kids in class will receive His love. Some people never do. However, I do know this, broken kids need someone to help them and this can only happen if someone sees them through the eyes of the Father.
What are you waiting for?
Make a list and start praying today.
