Here’s a brief intro to the lesson from the leader’s guide…
God is love. The Bible says, “nothing can separate us from the love of God.” Even if I sin or do bad things, God continues to love me. When I make mistakes He continues to believe the best of me. My behavior does not change the love of God. Nothing can change God’s love, because God is love.
God’s love is unconditional. The blessings of God are conditional. If I choose to obey God the Bible says I will be blessed. If I choose to disobey God, bad things will happen, but God does not cause bad things to happen. My actions caused the bad things to happen. The blessings of God are conditional, but God’s love is unconditional. There is nothing I can do to earn God’s love. Just like a parent loves a little baby, God loves us simply because we are His kids. A baby doesn’t do anything to earn the love of his parents. We can’t do anything to earn God’s love.
There is no end to God’s love. The Bible says “His mercy endures forever.” God is omnipresent. He is not limited by space and time like our parents. There is no end to God, so there is no end to His love. His supply of love will never run out. If we see God do something good for somebody else we don’t have to get jealous. There is plenty of His love to go around.
