Scripture reference:
2 peter 1:20-21, “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of scripture ever came about by the prophets own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (NIV)
What you need:
• A Bible
• A fictional children’s book such as “Cinderella”
(make sure that it is a book that the children will recognize)
Object Lesson Application:
(Hold up the Bible.)
This may come as a surprise to you, but not everybody believes that the Bible is the Word of God. In fact, some people believe that the Bible is a book of fairy tales.
They will say things like “the story of Noah and the Ark” or “Jonah and the Big Fish” did not really happen. Those are just fairy tales made up by some men, just like the book.
(Hold up “Cinderella.”)
Did you know that Jesus quoted from most of the Old Testament books? Let’s look at what Jesus says about Noah.
(Read from Matthew 24:37-39)
“But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
It sure sounds like Jesus believed that Noah was a real person, not a fictional character like Cinderella. It sounds like Jesus believed that Noah built an ark and that the flood really happened.
If Jesus believes that the stories in the Bible are real then I believe it.
Also, the Bible is filled with hundreds of fulfilled prophecies about the Messiah (Jesus).
(Read from Isaiah 53:1-10 and talk about how Isaiah was written 700 years before Jesus was born. Point out the specific prophecies that happened to Jesus.)
The Bible is different than any other book because it was inspired by God and is full of hundreds of fulfilled prophecies.
The other amazing thing about the Bible is that it works. The Bible is “The Book of Life.” When you are a doer of the Word (James 1:22) and you dowhatthe Bible says then life works better for you.
