The Holy Spirit gave me a word for 2025.
Sometimes, the Holy Spirit falls like rain, but sometimes, you must dig another well. The water is always there in the dry season, but you can’t always see it. You have to dig for it.
In Genesis Chapter 26, there is famine in Canaan, and Issac wants to go to Egypt. The Lord tells Issac, “Do not go down to Egypt, but stay where you are, and I will give these lands to you because I promised this land to your father, Abraham.”
When our lives become dry and barren, we tend to want to go somewhere else where things seem better, but we often need to stay where we are.
During the famine, Issac planted some crops. He unplugged the wells his father Abraham had dug to water his crops. The scripture says that he harvested 100 times more than he planted, which caused Abimelech, king of the Philistines, to be jealous of Issac and tell him to go elsewhere.
Issac moved and dug another well. He found water, but the Philistines said, “This is our water.” Issac moved again, and the same thing happened. Finally, Issac moved a third time and dug another well, and the Philistines left him alone.
Can I be honest with you? 2024 has been a challenging year. I resigned from a position at a large church that I had invested 20 years into. I unplugged from ministry for several months and rested, as serving at a mega-church can be draining.
Then, I wondered what I should do now.
I had some ideas, but nothing seemed to work. I missed ministry. It was a dry season.
It affects your confidence when you haven’t preached in almost a year. You struggle with self-doubt, asking questions like, “Do I still have it? Can I still minister? Will people listen to me?”
Then, in September, I attended a large Kids Ministry Conference, but instead of being encouraged, I was frustrated. Please don’t misunderstand me. It was a good conference with thousands of attendees but placed very little emphasis on the Holy Spirit.
Whenever I had a booth at the big KidMin conferences, I never sold anything because our curriculum is written for Spirit-filled churches.
I asked the Lord, “Why aren’t there any Kidmin conferences for Spirit-Filled churches?”
I heard these words, “Why don’t you do it?”
I had successfully hosted Kidmin conferences 20 years ago, but that was 20 years ago.
- Would it work today?
- Do people want this kind of conference today?
I wasn’t sure, but then the Holy Spirit prodded me.
“Dig another well.”
I knew what I needed to do.
I contacted my friend Becky Fischer, who has a similar vision for kids and the Holy Spirit.
“Becky, what do you think about doing a Kidmin conference together for Spirit-filled churches?”
Becky didn’t hesitate. “I’m in. I’ll do whatever I can to promote it.”
Fast-forward to today. Becky, Debbie, and I just completed our first conference in Houston, Raising Supernatural Kids! We had 160 registered guests from 20 states and four nations. One of the most exciting things was the number of young leaders at this conference. Over half the people were in their 20s and 30s.
The preaching was anointed, and the worship was incredible. God’s presence showed up powerfully. We hit a gusher—a well of living water, which is the hunger of God’s people.
I am eternally grateful to the Lord for everything that happened, but most importantly, I figured out what I was supposed to do. I am supposed to host Spirit-filled conferences for people who minister to kids and Supernatural Parenting Seminars for those who want to see their kids on fire for God.
Stay tuned. There is much more to come and more wells to dig.
We have booked the next RSK conference in Lake Wales, Florida, for May 1-2. Click below for more information!
Oh wow. Didn’t get the memo that you were coming to (here in) Houston to do a conference!
Curious, where was it held?
Family Harvest Church in Conroe, TX
Thanks
What church are you at John?
I should plan to attend next year! I just dug out your “Gifts of the Holy Spirit” curriculum from my home church. I’m excited to use it now in my position at our 3-year old church! I’m convicted to start teaching what we want to see happen among kids. What a day to be alive. We need Holy Spirit more than ever. Being raised in a Holy Ghost church was the best thing to happen to me!
Amen! God is on the move. Samarah, Are you using the Classic Super Church curriculum? or Super Church 2.0?
