I have a confession to make. I am a comic book geek. I have been collecting comics since I read my first Spiderman comic in 1968. One of my most valuable comics is Fantastic Four #1.
With the publication of FF#1 Stan Lee and Jack Kirby kicked off what is known as the Silver Age at Marvel Comics. During the silver age Marvel transitioned from monster comics to super hero comics. You can kind of see the transition on the cover of Fantastic Four #1.
A near mint copy of FF#1 sold for over $200,000.00 at a recent auction. My copy, which is beat up, is worth about $1,200.00.
Everybody is into something. I love collecting comics. Some people live for Sports, or fishing. Others are into scrapbooking. People collect all kinds of things; guitars, antiques, cars, stamps, art and classic video games.
Have you ever wondered?
“What is God into?”
“What does God collect?”
God is all-powerful. If doesn’t have a Fantastic Four #1 he can just make it. Does God control everything?
There is one thing that God does not control.
God does not control you and me.
God has given us a free will. Father God loves you and he wants you to love him, but he will not make you love him, because love has to be free. What is God into? He is into you. He wants to get close to you. This is why Jesus came to the earth.
“…and they will call Him Immanuel which means God is with us” Matthew 1:23
You may have made a giant mess of you life. Maybe your life is broken, you lost a job or you have been through a divorce. God still wants draw close to you. You are valuable to him.
If you look closely at my copy of FF#1 you can see that it is messed up. The cover is torn. A former owner wrote on the back of it. The interior pages are faded and yet it still has value, because it is FF#1.
This week at Family Church I will be talking about “What is the Good News?” The Good News is that God wants to be close to you. No matter where you are in your walk with God you have value.
I hope to see you this Sunday. I will be bringing my copy of Fantastic Four #1 if you want to get a close look at it. We meet at 9:30 AM @ the Mann Theatre, 1118 Mainstreet in Hopkins, MN. I hope to see you there!
